Career Counseling & Executive Coaching

Developing Options

Career planning is a systematic approach to choosing and reaching career goals. It is an ongoing and empowering experience that allows adults to gain control over important career and life issues. We believe in the value of career planning and counseling because the process allows the development of specific skills in the following important aspects of career decision-making:

  • self-assessment
  • information gathering
  • decision-making
  • goal setting

The career counseling process is one of building self-confidence and developing a life-goal orientation that is based upon an understanding of both short-term and long-term goals. Through discussion and testing, we can work together to identify areas of strength and competency and areas in which further training or education might be appropriate. We can assist you in exploring alternative courses of action by sorting through the choices and helping you develop decision-making skills that can be transferred to other life choices.

Each of us has unique counseling and information needs. Although the particular focus will vary, we have nine basic objectives for all participants:

  • Increased awareness of skills, interests, and abilities.
  • Clarification of values and priorities.
  • Increased understanding of obstacles to career planning and development.
  • Increased ability to analyze jobs in functional terms.
  • Acquisition of realistic information about the world of work.
  • Increased knowledge of job requirements.
  • Understanding of the process of making career decisions.
  • Practice in making career-related decisions.
  • Development of both short-term and long-term goals.

Your ability to be in control of your own life and career results from recognizing your potential and your unique personal needs and abilities. The emphasis of career counseling is to help you apply the principle of self-empowerment to assume responsibility for your career's direction and management.
